Family of 6 in Small Space, Town House in Denmark

See the blogpost:

This sweet family of 6 lives in a small townhouse in Aarhus, Denmark. Join us for a house tour, and get inspired from their solutions. They have chosen to downsize, in order to get more time together.

The kids live in two rooms. The two smallest kids (girl and boy) live together and the two bigger girls live together as well in only 65 sq ft (6 m2). Lots of cool storage solutions, and ways to live small and optimize the space for compact living.

I believe any family can live in a small space. I have yet to know what landlord in America would allow walls to built on, door removed, etc. in an apartment or town home. if this could be done, I would jump at the chance To live in a one bedroom rather than two.

I can't imagine how much stuff they had before they downsized… too much stuff for my taste.

I like their home, though is not precisely small. I've met families with 5 to 7 members that live in tiiiiiny apartments, with all 4 kids in the same bedroom, and their furniture is all cluttered everywhere in their houses. the only places on sale over here are in the suburbs, 3 hours away from downtown, are 29 to 45 sq meters land minus the garage area, no easy access to public transport (or have to walk through dangerous neighbourhoods to get to a bus stop) and almost nobody can afford them, not even with mortgage in 30 years, and even 10 people live inside the same tiny space. I grew up on a 200 sq meters apartment with my mum which i consider somewhat small bcs i was used to my dad's house and to my grandparents and other relatives houses, back then everyone i knew had a big house, so our apartment was 200 plus a 200 sq meters garden, and people thought it was HUGE, bcs almost all places are so tiny over here, my mother rented it, now we are in one that is just the same, even the same structure but the garden is on the roof, both apartments are at a 15 minutes walking distance from downtown, about a mile, and is a nice path bcs is filled with cute parks, boutiques and restaurants in almost 500 year old restored stone buildings, it is a pretty rare thing to find. My sister rents a big house bcs her business uses almost the whole street level floor, she got it pretty cheap but to afford a place like that one would have to be a white collar thief, people stopped being able to buy land in my city 30 like years ago, then prices rose, now everything is owned by corrupt politicians. My dad, my mum an the ppl of their generation grew up in HUGE houses with big gardens, they were big families back then, now all those houses are way too big for a couple or a family with 3 to 4 ppl, so they get rented for or sold to be used as expensive offices, schools, folk mini malls, shelters or hostels. The building I study in the State University used to be a home, all of those were homes until like 30-15 years ago, is where my grandparents and the ppl of their generation grew up are now government buildings, University buildings, luxury hotels and museums. I need to move out, such a crowded city has become aggressive and apathetic 🙁

You don't have to live small in a townhouse.  Just live minimalistic.  To begin with though, for 6 heads, I would move to something bigger.  My rule is 250sqft  per head.  So you would need 1500sqft.  I would sell and use that to buy 1500sqft.  It's still not as expensive as a 2100 sqft small house..

Good for them for being able to keep all their junk and live happily. I would have tons more space than them because I can't focus with tht much junk around me. Dear God. All I have in my living room is my tv console a couch and a loove seat a picture hanging over the tv and THTS it.

I truly like this house they got what for kids and them two as well and they managed to make it work where each kid felt comfortable and they still have their stuff and toys Exedra that they need I mean yeah Toys are not a necessity but it's nice for children to have them and I see in a lot of other tiny house with children they only have one if that and they barely got anything to play with and here they have four children and they're covered with toys and they have everything they seem to need well job parents that's a really nice tiny house cluttered and small but it's really nice…..
