Start-Ups – Berlin – Betahaus (3/4): Innospace & Arena (event location, auditorium, Kreuzberg)

This Video is part of our Berlin Start-Up Video Guide. We want to show you the Berlin Start-Up Scene in an authentic way. A first category we will cover are Coworking Spaces. The Betahaus in Berlin is one of the largest and longest existing Coworking Spaces in Berlin Kreuzberg. In this eywalk Katy from the Betahaus gives us a tour, covering the Innospace (event location) and Arena (Auditorium) fitting 40 people).

From the Betahaus website – www.betahaus.com/berlin/: “betahaus is a coworking space in Berlin, Hamburg, Sofia and Barcelona. At betahaus | Berlin you can work from Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm. If you book the 24/7 extra you can even work weekends and during the night. Of course, you could always work at a train station, or the airport terminal. However, that’s not usually very pleasant. We’ve envisioned a space that functions as a combination of a Vienna-style coffee house, a library, a home office or a university campus. We combine the best aspects of these locations, and use them to constantly develop betahaus. Since January 2009, we have been operating in a formerly state-owned space on Prinzessinnenstraße, close to Moritzplatz in the heart of Kreuzberg. Our team consists of highly-talented people from different disciplines, such as design, architecture, and more. At betahaus, we seek to implement our own ideas from work and life, as well as to invite other designers to exhibit, test, and further develop their ideas and prototypes in our space. Who knows what may emerge from this flow of ideas… At betahaus, we offer areas for quiet, concentrated work, as well as plenty of communicative space where you can make a phone call, or simply think aloud. Apart from separate meeting rooms, large eventspace, maker space, electronics lab and our café on the ground floor for relaxed entertainment, we have a coworking space of approximately 3000 square metres. Of course, we provide access to printers, scanners, and free wi-fi – all of that should be a given! Background: High quality value is no longer created in classic offices. Added value is created in different locations, at different times, in changing team constellations and without permanent employment. This new type of work constantly seeks new real and virtual locations. Open, digitally networked and collaborative work places are required which are flexible and serve as incubation platform for network, innovation and production. The betahaus is such a working space. It is a platform which meets the requirements of independent creative professionals and knowledge workers, and expands their opportunities. In a mixture of relaxed coffee house atmosphere and concentrated working environment we create room between work and privacy in which innovation and creativity is fostered. We opened the first betahaus in Berlin (in Kreuzberg, directly on Moritzplatz, Prinzessinenstraße 19-20). There we offer on about 3000 sqm room for innovations, creativity, events and professional working. We have WLAN, fixed and flexible workstations, meeting rooms, a telephone room as well as the betahaus café. Since 1 April 2009 over 300 freelance professionals from the creative scene have been working here: graphic designers, programmers, photographers, architects, designers, academics, lawyers, non-governmental organisations, translators, video artists, journalists and bloggers. Some great start ups grew up in the betahaus: you’ll find some examples on our blog. Tour of the House is conducted every Thursday at 11.30am. Meeting place: betahaus | café on the ground floor. If you’re group of 10 or more, book a spot via email. If you would like to do some „trial work” drop by the betahaus | reception Mo-Fr, 8am to 8pm. Get the feeling of the community and join betabreakfast – our community event taking place every Thursday at 9:30am on the 1st floor. We always have new startups and projects presenting, so don’t hesitate and come for the next betabreakfast! betahaus | education is our new activity stream at betahaus. We provide workshops and courses with multidisciplinary topics (e.g. 3D printing, Product Design, Arduino, Adobe Illustrator) taught by people who are experienced specialists in the field. Check the outline of the workshops and join us for the making!”
