I am a huge terminator fan (HUGE), but I'm actually surprised it was number 1. Tbh I though the matrix would be #1. I'm not complaining tho, just shocked because these lists are fan chosen

The Spielberg film that sold the most tickets was E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial not Jurassic Park. You called Jurassic Park his most successful, but that is only if you ignore inflation. E.T. is 4th all time adjusted, Jurassic Park is 17th. Shame on you Watchmojo for adding to that misapprehension.

Thank you WatchMojo for putting in "Dark City" in the list. I find that it was a unique, dark, space movie. Also the casting fit perfectly.

Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country should've been mentioned.

Love that you gave a mention to Contact. I know it was a bit slow for people in the first half and not hugely popular but I'm always surprised and delighted when I meet people who loved it. Every time I think about it more or rewatch it I realise it was even more brilliant than I had thought. The themes in it are just interwoven beautifully into what seems like a biopic for most of the movie. It's way more brilliant than people give it credit for.

Contact as merely an "honorable mention" is an insult to science fiction. Adapted from Carl Sagan's novel, it's one of the most scientifically plausible scifi films ever made. It's part of a great tradition of science fiction speculating on what's possible in the future. Most sci fi movies are really just action movies or horror/creature movies with a scifi premise but which don't spend any time exploring scifi themes. Contact is the real deal.

Gattaca should be higher on the list.
    Fifth Element is a joke.

right off the bat in the very beginning you're showing a clip of what you claim is Independence Day when that clip and those actors are never in the movie Independence Day

At the beginning, did they show a scene from SS troopers, call it ID4, and date in from 1995 (the former was 1997 and the latter was 1996)?

As the narrator says, T2 is probably the best sci-fi film of all time. I don't know why millions of people claim that Star Wars is better.

  38. Brett Peacock
    May 29, 2017

Well, I'd swap the Matrix with Dark City for a start – Dark City had multiple ideas and explored them, But when the Matrix had an idea, it ran off screaming and had a gun-battle instead.
