These were definitely some of Vinnie's campier efforts, but still fun!

Both films were purposely so; being written and directed by Robert Fuest, who worked on the UK television series, THE AVENGERS.

3:31 Vincent Price had sort of a reputation as a "ham actor", but if you really watch his performances he was a much better actor than he got credit for.

Vincent had pretty much two styles he worked in, campy and serious. This film sort of crosses the two. When he turned it on dramatically, there really wasn't anyone better.

Watch the Baron of Arizona for an example of this. It really is one of my favorite Vincent performances, but I stuck to just horror films in this list. He is a villain in it, however, and its based on a real historical person. Great stuff.

Man, and I thought Phantom of the Paradise was a great movie. What a ripoff they made of Phibes. The guy in Paradise is disfigured and has to talk through a synth thing.

@truthsurge – oh yeah, easy to see where they took their inspiration in Phantom of the Paradise. But I think it's different enough to consider it a sort of homage rather than a rip off. Fun movie.

I have to disagree. The sequel isn't nearly as good. It's just a cash-in. Phibes comes back for no reason and it introduces supernatural stuff and the killings aren't nearly as ingenious.

"Phibes 2" wasn't my favorite horror movie but… 4:50 — the sausage machine!   Eeeewww–eeeewwwww!!!  One thing to be crushed to death in like a room where the walls close in, but a reverse stretching rack where you're forced to lie straight, your bones grinding against each other, as you're gradually squashed into paste.  I can't imagine a more painful way to go!
